What is Ranger?
Ranger is group of young women aged between 15 and 21 (17 and 21 for Air Ranger) who are enthusiastic about Girl Guiding.
When did Ranger start?
In 1916, Lord Baden-Powell established the first Ranger unit in the world.
How many Ranger units are there in Hong Kong?
From the Hong Kong Girl Guides Association census in 2006-2007, there were 715 registered Ranger Guides (170 from IS; 270 from Kln; 275 from NT), who formed 24 Ranger units (6 from IS; 9 from Kln; 9 from NT) in Hong Kong.
What does Ranger do?
With the devotion of trained Guiders, Ranger Guides develop their abilities through administering the unit and organizing different kinds of activities, including meetings, camping, hiking, canoeing, serving the needy, international exchange and joint-unit programs. Also, Ranger Guides are happy to face difficulties and learn by overcoming challenges.
What is the difference between Ranger, Sea and Air Ranger?
Ranger and Sea Ranger units are both for young women aged between 15 and 21. Air Ranger units are aged between 17 and 21. Basically, Ranger, Sea and Air Ranger all have similar functions but Sea Ranger focuses more on sea activities, such as windsurfing and canoing whereas Air Ranger focuses more on Aviation knowledge.
Uniform is another major difference. Rangers wear light green blouses; Sea Rangers wear white blouses; Air Rangers wear sky blue blouses. Sea Rangers also have woggles, lanyards, whistle and the word "Sea Ranger" printed on the hats.

How to become a Ranger, Sea or Air Ranger?
You can simply call/fax the Hong Kong Girl Guides Association Headquarters or go there in person for more information. The HKGGA Headquarters is located at 8 Gascoigne Road and the phone number is 23325523/27826466(fax). You will be required to fill out a profile of yourself and the Headquarters will match you with a unit or a couple of units according to your preference. It may take up to a year to complete the process as most of the units just recruit members in September. You can also join any unit near you when they are having recruitments.
